KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe into the scandal-riddled 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) is now zooming in on gathering evidence overseas.

Its chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull said the probe and evidence obtained locally was about “100% complete”.

“This makes the status of completion at around 50%. Half of it is here, which is almost complete, while another half is overseas,” he told reporters at City Hall yesterday.

Mohd Shukri was clarifying his statement on Friday that the probe into the 1MDB scandal was now 50% complete.

On another matter, he said he was also ready for the legal suit filed by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak against him regarding the MACC probe into 1MDB.

“Let him sue. I will accept it. Let the court decide,” he said.

Najib has filed lawsuits against top investigators probing 1MDB on June 30, according to Reuters.

He made three civil filings with his lawyers alleging that Mohd Shukri, Commercial Crime Investigations Department director Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh and Attorney General Tommy Thomas were prejudiced against him over the course of their investigations.

Mohd Shukri also said it was the right of Pemantau Malaysia Baru president Datuk Lokman Adam to lodge a report against him.

Lokman, who is an Umno supreme council member, had lodged the report over the freezing of more than 400 bank accounts, including those of Najib’s immediate family, claiming that this was done out of revenge and to prevent them from posting the RM1mil bail.

Najib on Wednesday claimed trial to three counts of criminal breach of trust and another charge of abuse of power involving RM42mil linked to SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB.

Earlier, Mohd Shukri launched the “Walk Stop Talk: Six Hours Quarter Million Messages” event, an anti-corruption awareness programme involving 1,000 participants handing over 250,000 pamphlets in 262 locations across the country.

The programme received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for garnering a quarter million signatures in support of the fight against corruption.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad and Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.
