IPOH: Police are investigating a death threat issued against DAP leaders Nga Kor Ming and Liew Chin Tong.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Ali Tamby said a report had been received and the case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“We are also investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service,” he said yesterday.

On Friday, Keranji assemblyman Chong Zhemin lodged a report at the Ipoh district police headquarters over a death threat posted by a Facebook user named Jing Hong on a community page.

Written in Chinese, the post reads: “Both of you from Pakatan Harapan make me mad. You both just wait, I will kill you. Both of you will nicely go and accompany Teoh Beng Hock.”

A picture of a pistol and a picture each of Nga and Liew were also attached with the post. Recently, Nga was made the Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker while Liew was appointed a senator and also Deputy Defence Minister.

When met yesterday, Nga said a report would be lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the Facebook user.

The Teluk Intan MP and Aulong state assemblyman said the report was to allow MCMC to trace the user’s IP address in order to identify him.

“I was shocked over the threat. We view the matter with great concern.

“This is not just about me or Chin Tong, but it also concerns the safety of the entire leadership of the country.

“Since a report has been lodged, I hope the police will conduct a thorough investigation and prevent any untoward incidents from happening,” he said after opening Kepayang state assemblyman Dr Ko Chung Sen’s new service centre in Jalan Teh Hawa.

Nga noted that it was the first death threat after the new government was formed.

“I hope this will also be the last. This is clearly not Malaysian culture.

“We can have differences of opinion, we can also argue as it is part and parcel of political affairs. But it must not be done with violence. This must stop,” he said, adding that the original post had been deleted.

Teoh, a political secretary to Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on July 16, 2009 on the fifth floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after he had given a statement at the office of the Selangor Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission on the 14th floor of the building.
