KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng were among those who paid their last respects to Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng at the Xiao En centre in Jalan Kuari.

Dr Wan Azizah and Lim arrived separately but both pledged to provide assistance to the deceased’s family.

“I knew him during my time as the Kajang MP.

“He was committed and hardworking and cared about the people,” Dr Wan Azizah told reporters after her visit on Saturday.

Lim, who arrived a few hours before Dr Wan Azizah, said Selangor DAP will offer any assistance needed to the family as well as a contribution that will be announced later.

“We are all having a hard time accepting that he’s gone.

“He was loved by everyone who knew him as he was truly a man of the people,” Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, told reporters.

Also present were Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, Seri Serdang assemblyman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and Batu Pahat MP Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.

Ng, 40, was driving to his service centre in his four-wheel drive vehicle when he slammed into the back of a lorry on the Grand Saga Express- way early Friday morning.

He was killed on the spot, triggering another by-election in Selangor, the second in about nine weeks since polling for GE14 on May 9.

The DAP assemblyman is survived by his wife and three children aged 13, 15 and 17.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday.
