Activist quizzed over role in seditious article on King
KUALA LUMPUR: Activist Hishamuddin Rais (pic) has been called in for questioning by police over a seditious article on the Yang di- Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V on his blog on June 6.
He was questioned for about 90 minutes after arriving at the Dang Wangi police headquar t e r s around 4pm yesterday.
His lawyer
Zaid Malek, who accompanied him, said the case was being investigated under the Sedition Act and the Communication and Multimedia Act.
“According to my client, his blog was hacked and he removed the post as soon as he noticed it,” he told reporters later outside the headquarters.
Hishamuddin also urged the Pakatan Harapan government to live up to its promise of abolishing the Sedition Act.
“If they don’t do it, they are breaking their promise to the public,” he said.
Hishamuddin is alleged to have uploaded the article on the amount spent for the upkeep of the monarch on his blog www.tukartiub. blogspot.com on June 6. Veteran newsman Datuk A. Kadir Jasin later put up the article on his personal blog.
However, it is understood that Hishamuddin removed the statement after a screenshot of it was widely spread on social media.
Police reports have also been lodged against Kadir for alleged sedition.
