Aiming to tackle water woes
Pakatan’s Wong goes to the ground to get to know various issues
As soon as Wong Siew Ki (pic) was named as Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Balakong state byelection, she was seen visiting the area to find out about issues the constituents faced.
Wong, 32, said if she wins, she will focus on the infrastructure and work on the initiatives that were started by the late assemblyman Eddie Ng who died in a car accident on July 20.
“I know a lot of people here, and come here often. So it’s a chance to catch up with them and discuss local issues,” she said before the launch of Pakatan’s election operations centre at the Cheras Traders’ Square business area last night.
She will work to resolve Balakong’s water supply problem.
“Everyone knew Ng as the ‘waterman’, as there were a lot of water supply issues in the area. He had to go around to distribute water to the residents,” Wong said, adding that she would also look into resolving the drainage and flash flood problems in the area.
Wong expressed her gratitude for the trust DAP has in her.
During the 21day campaign period, she will make sure of a high voter turnout on polling day.
DAP secretarygeneral Lim Guan Eng presented Wong with her election accreditation letter from the party and also launched the operations centre.
He said the Balakong byelection is an important gauge of the acceptance of Pakatan’s new logo and the Malaysia Baru concept.
“Wong has been selected to continue the late Ng’s legacy. He was one of our most effective assemblymen,” he said, adding that the selection of Wong showed that DAP wanted more female representatives in the government.
Wong will see a challenge from MCA’s Tan Chee Teong, 40, a local resident who runs a hardware store.
Nomination day is tomorrow while polling day will be on Sept 8.
