KULAI: Housewife Nurfazairah Abdullah was only 11 when she was diagnosed with acute diabetes which requires her to take daily insulin injections.

Now at 28, she is wheelchair-bound after her legs were amputated below the knees last year and this year.

She was eight months pregnant when her right leg was amputated in March. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl via caesarian section a month later. She has three other young children.

Nurfazairah hopes to raise RM30,000 to get prosthetic limbs.

“My prayer this Hari Raya Haji is to be able to walk again and take care of my family. My husband and children have all sacrificed so much to take care of me,” she said at their home in Senai.

Her husband, a factory bus driver, is up by 5am most days and only goes to bed at midnight.

“After six-hour shifts, he is back home to take care of me and the kids. He also does all the housework and even cooking,” she said.

Azhari Abdul Rahman, 36, said they had used up all their savings to treat her.

The family is unable to raise the RM30,000 needed for the prosthetic limbs and is hoping for public donations.

“With the prosthetic limbs, my wife will be more mobile and can take care of the children while I take on other jobs to supplement my income,” he said.

Their plight caught the attention of Johor Indian Business Association president P. Sivakumar, who has initiated a donation drive.

Donors can give cash or issue a cheque to Persatuan Peniaga India Johor via its Public Bank account 3110997613.
