PETALING JAYA: More recreational activities and sports facilities will be introduced in Seri Setia following request from youths in the constituency said Pakatan Harapan candidate Halimey Abu Bakar.

He pointed out that 32% of Seri Setia voters were aged between 21 and 40 years old with most living in low-cost flats in Lembah Subang and Desa Mentari.

Halimey said the Seri Setia constituency was dense and overcrowded leaving very little space for recreational spaces.

“But do not worry, I will try and work things out with government agencies as well as raise the issue with the mentri besar,” he said adding that other outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and extreme sports would also be introduced.

Younger voters in the constituency also put in requests for more futsal fields, silat and sepak takraw courts in neighbourhoods.

Others, he said, had asked for weekend workshops and courses such as sewing, cooking, batik making, public speaking and language classes to be introduced.

“Most of the youths in my neighbourhood work as despatch boys, mechanics or in the factories and they often look for recreational spots on weekends without having to travel to Kuala Lumpur,” said Mohd Shahrezza Shahrani.

The 28-year-old who has been living in Desa Mentari since his teens said futsal courts were very popular but they often had to queue for a turn.

“We share a futsal court together with three blocks of flats and it is almost impossible on weekends to book a spot,” he said adding that Halimey should also consider constructing a small go-kart circuit to prevent youths from taking part in illegal racing.
