Adam views Moto3 exit as opportunity to mature
SILVERSTONE: Malaysian Moto3 rider Adam Norrodin (pic) is ready to step up, now that another door of opportunity has opened for him after being dropped from the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team line-up next year.
The 20-year-old Adam wants to prove himself in the FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship next season after his failure to shine in his third year in Moto3.
Adam is 21st in the Moto3 standings with 24 points while teammate Ayumu Sasaki of Japan sits at 18th with 32 points after 11 rounds.
Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said Adam, who will be replaced by Scottish rider John McPhee, was dropped because he failed to meet their expectations.
Adam took the decision positively.
“I feel this is not really a drop because I’ll be jumping to a bigger engine in CEV Moto2,” said Adam.
“Datuk Razlan has his reasons to make this move. I trust him because he has supported me in my development as a rider.
“I hope to do well in CEV Moto2 and eventually, get an opportunity to move into the higher level Moto2.”
But with eight races left in the Moto3 this season, the Johor-born rider does not want to let this setback affect his concentration.
“This year is not done yet and I must rebuild my confidence,” said Adam, who showed his mental fortitude on Saturday when he finished 15th during qualifying of the British Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit.
He finished ahead of his teammate Sasaki, who will start from 20th on the grid.
