IT’s not all gloom and doom for Malaysia at the GBK Archery Field.

The national archery team are still in the running to bring home a medal when Malaysia take on Taiwan in the bronze-medal playoff for the men’s compound team tomorrow.

The trio of Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki, Lee Kin Lip and Alang Ariff Aqil Muhd Ghazalli will be out to save the blushes after the men’s recurve team suffered a shock first-round defeat on Saturday.

Yesterday, Juwaidi annd teammates did well to reachh the semi-finals before going down to world No. 2 South Korea 229-235.

Malaysia, a three-time Asiaa Cup runners-up, had earlierlier defeated Laos 230-223 in the first round and then outclassed 2015 world champions Iran 232-224 en route to the last four. “WWe’re so delighted with our wwin over Iran. They are the wworld’s highest ranked nnation in the compound disccipline and won the team ggold at the 2015 World Chhampionships (in Copenhagen ),” hag es aid Kin Lip.

“This win was also a sweet revenge as we had previously lost to them in the final of the Asia Cup (in Bangkok in 2016).

“But we knew it’s going be tough against the Koreans.

“They put up a near-perfect display.”

Having gone one step better from their last eight outing in Incheon four years ago, Kin Lip said they would go all out to secure the third place.

“The National Sports Council did not set any target for us, so a bronze will be an overwhelming success,” he said.
