Malaysian women in the semis while men’s team clinch fourth victory

THE national men's team dropped a game before chalking up their fourth straight win in Group B in the team event at the Indonesia Asian Games.

The Malaysians was made to sweat as they edged Qatar 21 at the Gelora Bung Karno Squash Stadium yesterday.

Malaysia went ahead with Ivan Yuen beating Hamad Al Amri 116, 116, 114 in 21 minutes before Ng Eain Yow needed 24 minutes to see off Syed Azlan Amjad 114, 117, 116.

However, world No. 28 and Malaysian Open champion Abdulla AlTamimi proved to be an obstacle for national No.1 Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan.

Al Tamimi flexed his muscle to beat world No. 40 Nafiizwan 114, 118, 112 in 27 minutes.

Malaysia will next take on India in their final group match today to see who will emerge as the group champions before the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the national women's team were again in dominant form as they swatted Japan’s challenge in their final Group A match in 61 minutes.

Kedahan S. Sivasangar­i started the ball rolling with 113, 115, 119 win over Risa Sugimoto in just 17 minutes.

Low Wee Wern then beat Misaki Kobayashi 115, 111, 113 in 18 minutes, while Datuk Nicol David eased past Satomi Watanabe 116, 1210, 114 in 26 minutes.

They will now wait for the outcome of the Group B match between India and Hong Kong to see who will be their semifinal opponents tomorrow ( Aug 31).
