Cheong: Police probe begins and my wife stands beside me

IPOH: Cheong Chee Khing, the political secretary to Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran, said police are investigating the spread of a viral photograph of a man and a woman in a compromising position.

What matters most to him is he has the trust of his wife.

Cheong said his wife of almost 30 years was aware of the allegation linking him to the photograph.

“My wife knows this is all politics and she trusts me fully,” he added.

He said a police report was lodged over the matter on Saturday and his statement was recorded.

“Let the police investigate,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Dismissing the post as pure fabrication, Cheong said he would leave it to the police to uncover the truth.

Cheong alleged that there was a conspiracy to discredit him ahead of the Perak DAP elections on Oct 14.

Formerly the Bercham assemblyman, Cheong was dropped from defending his state seat at the 14th general election in May.

It has been speculated that there are three factions within Perak DAP.

One is led by state chairman Nga Kor Ming, who is the Teluk Intan MP and Aulong assemblyman.

The other is Nga’s cousin and state party adviser Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, the Beruas MP and Astaka assemblyman.

Another is purportedly led by party national vice-chairman Kulasegaran and Kampar MP Thomas Su.

Last week, in a Facebook post, written in both Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia, a woman claiming to be Cheong’s wife warned: “Today, I want to remind all the women who want to come near my husband. He dares not and will not divorce me to be with you.

“For you all to know, many women have tried to wreck our family throughout our marriage. I am used to such a situation.

“To all the women, do not hope that my husband will divorce me for you.”
