MACC report lodged over vote-buying by pol-sec

PUTRAJAYA: A PKR Youth coordinator has lodged a report with the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) alleging that a political secretary to the Works Minister has been abusing his position to gain the support of local party leaders in Pahang.

Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razak, who filed the report, claimed the political secretary had offered contracts worth RM20,000 to local leaders in Bera on Sept 1 at Rumah Harapan, Taman Merbau Bandar Triang, Pahang.

He claimed the aide had also told those who attended the meeting that he was going to obtain an allocation worth RM300,000 from the Housing and Local Government Ministry, and that he had to use it by the end of the month.

He claimed the political secretary then asked each of the local leaders to apply to the Bera parliamentary coordinator for contracts, adding that allocations from the Economic Affairs Ministry would also be distributed to local leaders.

“I believe these offers have something to do with the party polls because the political secretary is vying for positions in the election,” Ahmad Syukri told reporters after filing the report at the MACC headquarters here yesterday.

The political secretary, he said, was one of the candidates for the PKR central leadership council and was also contesting for the Bera division chief post.

“That is why I believe the political secretary has been abusing his position as a civil servant by offering goodies, in the form of projects to obtain the support of the local leaders,” he said.

Ahmad Syukri handed over pictures taken at the said meeting, voice recordings and transcripts of the conversations, among others, to the MACC.
