Arul Kanda called in for police questioning
PETALING JAYA: Police have called former 1Malaysia Development Berhad president Arul Kanda Kandasamy in for questioning.
It was in relation to ongoing investigations involving the sovereign fund in which he was also the chief executive officer.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh confirmed that police grilled Arul Kanda on Wednesday, but did not divulge details.
“Yes, I can confirm that we called him in for questioning,” he said.
Another source confirmed that Arul Kanda was questioned over the 1MDB scandal.
A news portal reported that Arul Kanda was called in for questioning over his 1MDB roadshows in the lead-up to the 14th general election.
On Sept 20, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak claimed trial to 25 charges of graft and money laundering, relating to transactions amounting to RM2.3bil which were believed to be linked to 1MDB.
The court granted bail of RM3.5mil with two sureties and fixed Nov 16 for case management.
Separately, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Umno would extend its cooperation to the police in relation to investigations over funds channelled to the party, believed to be from 1MDB.
The Umno vice-president said the authorities could be assured that the party would assist them, adding that he was aware that some Umno liaison committee members had received notifications from the police.
