KLUANG: He is used to beating his wife and abusing their only child but he went a step too far when he threatened to blow his family up.

The man, who is a former convict and used to work for the National Anti-Drugs Agency before he was sacked in 2014, had to be coaxed for almost three hours before police stormed his garage in Taman Kluang Indah and subdued him at 10.45am yesterday.

The man started to run amok and threatened to blow his family up as his wife refused to allow him to see their son.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Abduh Ismail said it started at 7.45am when the 40-year-old man came to see his child.

The wife refused and closed the house gates on him.

The man lost his cool and threatened to kill them with a bomb. The terrified wife immediately alerted the police.

It is learnt that police tried to coax the suspect until 10.30am but when negotiations failed, they decided to storm the garage.

Police seized an old mortar from the suspect and a few knives and parang.

At least one policeman was injured during the struggle, said ACP Mohd Abduh.

The suspect was also on the wanted list for beating up his wife and child.

In an unrelated case, Johor police smashed a motorcycle theft syndicate with the arrest of 16 individuals, including 12 foreigners, between the ages of 25 and 35.

The group has been active for more than a year and has stolen 56 motorcycles. The mastermind is a local man.
