Ex-Star journalist Noorsila passes away
PETALING JAYA: Outgoing and passionate were the words used to describe former journalist Noorsila Abd Majid (pic), who died at Hospital Serdang yesterday following surgery to remove a growth in her colon.
Noorsila, 48, was a journalist with Star Media Group from 1998 to 2012, having worked at the entertainment and feature desks.
Former Star colleague Punitha Yogaratnam described her as an “intrepid reporter”.
“Fluent in Malay, English and Mandarin, she was a lively person and had a keen interest in various topics, including animal rights, entertainment and social causes,” she said.
“Better known as Sheila, she was well known for asking tough questions and often even gatecrashed events,” said another former Star colleague, Nitha Subramaniam.
Star2 entertainment editor Gordon Kho said: “She worked hard and was passionate about the entertainment scene. I remember her as someone who had a big heart and was always willing to help others.”
After she left The Star, Noorsila took up positions in MCA’s SME section and New Straits Times Press. Her last position was as corporate communications head with the Entrepreneur Development Ministry.
Noorsila underwent an operation on Sept 14 to remove the tumour.
She is expected to be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Sungai Kantan, Kajang, today.
