> Living without plastic

We don’t mind ministers changing their minds after they get feedback from stakeholders and the public. If advanced countries like Britain, Australia and New Zealand know the dangers of processing their own plastic waste, why doesn’t Malaysia? Ban the import. It’s not that difficult for normal people to live without plastic. Plastic was non-existent when I was in primary school. Pharmacies can sell plastic straws for patients if needed. – Esther Importing plastic waste is the consequence of confused policymakers. – Prof (B)

> Root of the problem

The police should be focusing on Malaysian manufacturers, importers and bottlers of counterfeit alcohol instead of the suppliers and wholesalers. Go to the root of the problem, not the middlemen. – Concerned

> Perks in public service

Civil servants can have special loans when they buy a car or house, which means they pay much lower instalments than the rest of us. Everyone seems to need a bigger car or the latest mobile phone but we in the private sector have to live within our means. > Still lawless on the road

Roads need to be made safer now! There is no visible change in the behaviour of drivers and riders of all vehicle categories across all road types. Rules are being flouted by the second and enforcement appears non-existent! If the new government is as clueless as the old one, better seek help urgently! – SAFE DRIVER

> Good finance minister

It’s better to be the most unpopular finance minister and save the country than being the most popular minister and bankrupt the nation. As long as you serve the nation and rakyat honourably and courageously, history will always remember you well. Leave a good footprint for future generations of Malaysians. Be tough, be brave, and above all be clean. – Jason

> Lost lustre

High-end foreign jewellers who brazenly flout Malaysian customs and immigration laws by surreptitiously shipping in jewellery worth millions of ringgit ostensibly for private viewing by their select clientele with the prospect of making a killing in sales should not complain when these luxury items are seized by the authorities in corruption probes. – Beatle No.5

> More discounts

Just like for traffic summonses, PTPTN should give more discounts to those who pay up fully immediately to encourage more repayment.
