Umno wings blast govt over failure to fulfil polls pledges

-

KUALA LUMPUR: All three Umno wings took the government to task over its failure to fulfil election promises.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki berated several Cabinet ministers over their blunders.

In an obvious reference to Mohamad Sabu, Dr Asyraf said the Defence Minister had indirectly exposed the national defence system by saying that the country had only four fighter jets that were “functional”.

“However, during the recent National Day parade, many fighter jets were showcased in the sky. Where did they borrow them from?” he asked.

He also poked fun at another, who wanted to champion openness and freedom, by celebrating minority groups until the issue involving the usage of toilets became a “national agenda”.

“The Barisan Nasional government protected those who are in the disabled group but now, come the new Malaysia, they simply gave away these rights,” he said.

He also pointed out that Pakatan Harapan had promised to abolish the National Higher Education Fund Corporation debts but when they came into power, they labelled borrowers as “shameful” for not being able to repay their loans.

Wanita chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad said as the opposition, Umno and Barisan must hold the government responsible for their pledges.

She questioned the promises made such as lowering the price of petrol to RM1.50 per litre and abolishing toll within 100 days in power.

“It is already 140 days since they took over the government.

“Don’t give cliche statements and stop blaming the previous government.

“If you are good (at governing), things can be done,” she said.

Puteri chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan said the people were slowly waking up to the reality of “unfulfilled promises”.

“Without Goods and Services Tax, has prices of goods gone down? Turns out it was replaced by SST or ‘slow slow tipu’.

“To the Malays, a promise is as good as a debt. If you can’t fulfil it, don’t simply promise,” she said.
