Paraglider found dead in river

SUN­GAI PETANI: A mo­torised paraglider who had been in­volved in the sport for four years was found dead in Sun­gai Kuala Muda.

Muham­mad Khairun Naim Ab­dul­lah, 30, fell into the river af­ter a sus­pected en­gine break­down to his paramo­tor.

He had ear­lier taken off with a friend at Dataran Dato’ Ali Ya­haya Sports Com­plex in Kota Kuala Muda at 8am yes­ter­day.

Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Ad­zli Abu Shah said Muham­mad Khairun had se­cured the green light from the Depart­ment of Civil Avi­a­tion to carry out the ac­tiv­ity, adding that he was a mem­ber of a paraglid­ers’ as­so­ci­a­tion.

“Eye­wit­nesses said they were un­able to reach him due to the river’s cur­rent. His body was found about 1km from where he fell,” he said.

Pow­ered paraglid­ing pi­lots wear mo­tors on their backs that pro­vide the thrust to take them off the ground.
