Tawau PKR chief unhappy with re-voting directive
KOTA KINABALU: Tawau PKR will go ahead with the order from the party’s central election committee to go for re-voting tomorrow, but said it was dissatisfied with the directive. However, Tawau PKR chief Datuk Kong Hong Ming said he was surprised that there was an order for his division to conduct re-voting, claiming that there was no problem during the Nov 3 voting process.
“I want to reiterate that there was no disruption or protests on Nov 3. All candidates and the election committee representatives have agreed with the process of voting (in the Tawau division) and there was also no protest made during the course of the election process.
“We have protested against the decision by the party’s central election committee for Tawau but will go ahead with the re-vote on Sunday,” Kong said when contacted yesterday.
Kong retained his position as Tawau division head in the first vote that also saw the division overwhelmingly support Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for the deputy presidency.
The latter garnered 1,393 votes against 848 votes received by challenger Rafizi Ramli. Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Christina Liew claimed that there was trouble and disruption at the Tawau polls.
Tawau and Keningau PKR divisions in Sabah were ordered to go for re-voting on Saturday while Pensiangan was ordered to continue its voting process tomorrow.
Sabah PKR Election chief coordinator Rosli Masaliku said technical problems in Tawau had forced a re-vote while in Keningau the voting process was disrupted by a scuffle.
He said Pensiangan would have a continuation of the polls from 9am to 4pm at the three divisions as there were many who registered to vote on Nov 4 but could not do so due to time constraints.
He said these decisions were made after a thorough discussion with the central election committee.
Azmin currently leads with 1,611 votes in Sabah after 22 of 25 divisions completed their polling over Nov 3 and 4.
