Nurul Izzah teared up when polls results were announced

SHAH ALAM: Re-elected PKR vice-chief Nurul Izzah Anwar was emotional over how the party polls were conducted.

She appeared to be tearing up in pictures taken of her when the election results were announced yesterday.

When approached by reporters about it after the party congress wrapped up, she said: “Of course anyone would be distraught. People should be focusing on strengthening our party.

“I don’t like to see us having gone through such a difficult and arduous (voting) process, which is flawed,” she said.

Nurul Izzah said the flawed electoral process had strained relations within the party when it should be focused on making good on its manifesto promises.

“I love my party and I do want everyone to come together more cohesively,” she said.

As one of the political parties currently in government, she said PKR has a clear-cut agenda to fulfil its pledges to the people.

“People are expecting a lot from us, so I always take a position that if you can’t be that voice of conscience, then what good are you?

“I try my best to remind myself and everyone else of the key concerns,” she said.

PKR leaders who have not managed to win a position in the recent polls should still be approached to help the party at large, she added.

“At the end of the day, I hope we can absorb all the leaders who may not necessarily have won this round.

“The party can function effectively if it utilises the strength of all the leaders – those who won, and those who didn’t get the chance to win,” she said.

She urged all stakeholders, regardless of whether they hold positions in the party or not, to initiate reforms and to implement them “as soon as possible”.
