Mat Sabu: Amanah’s door open to PAS MPs

-

PETALING JAYA: Even as Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu said he is “praying” for the unity of Umno and PAS, his party will not be blacklisting PAS MPs who want to join them.

Mohamad took potshots at PAS and Umno for still wanting to come together despite losing the general election.

“They have been whispering about uniting even when I was in PAS. Did they think that as the then deputy president, I was not aware of it?” Mohamad said while opening the Selangor Amanah convention yesterday.

Later at a press conference, the Defence Minister said he prays that Umno and PAS would not unite in secret but in public.

“In fact, I want them to be together,” said Mohamad in a sarcastic manner.

Despite the attendance of ministers, the state convention was a toned down affair attended by about 400 members.

Earlier in his speech, Mohamad expressed hope that Muslims in Malaysia would not end up “killing each other for various reasons as was happening in all other Muslim countries elsewhere”.

“Islamic countries are famous for exporting refugees but Islamic books are being translated in Japan (a non-Muslim country).

“Is it a wonder that our Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) is looking towards Japan for the good values practised there?”

Also present were Amanah leaders Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who is Health Minister, Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin and Selangor Amanah chief Izham Hashim.
