Movement set to grow even further next year

PETA L I NG JAYA: The #StandTogether kindness movement by R.AGE and SP Setia is set to grow even further next year, as it continues to call for a National Kindness Week to be observed every first week of April.

The campaign was initiated last year in response to a spate of horrific bullying cases, and succeeded in registering over 700 schools and 900 teachers for the first National Kindness Week in April this year.

“We’ve been working closely with our partners to improve on the campaign’s success last year, and we’re confident of making an even bigger impact this year,” said R.AGE deputy executive editor and producer Ian Yee.

“Our campaign has caught the attention of some educators overseas, so we’re hoping to expand this Malaysian kindness revolution to the rest of the world too.”

K-pop superstar Siwon Choi, who was in Malaysia in August for a Unicef youth forum on ending violence against children, also recorded a message of support for the National Kindness Week, while MPs Nurul Izzah Anwar, P. Prabakaran and Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik have all voiced their support as well.

Yee added that the latest Children4Change survey by Unicef Malaysia on bullying in schools reaffirms what R.AGE and SP Setia are trying to achieve with #StandTogether and how important it is to inculcate kindness at a young age.

“I think it’s great that Unicef has done this survey, so everyone knows the challenge that we’re facing in schools.

“Now, we just have to keep working to find solutions, and we believe a National Kindness Week is a good place to start,” said Yee.

#StandTogether was recognised alongside some of the best in digital news content and campaigns when it won the top prize in the Branded Content category at the Digital Media Asia summit earlier this month.
