MELAKA: Businessman Victor Yeo is a happy man after fulfilling a family tradition of holding a Peranakan wedding feast for his daughters.

The two siblings were wed on the same day in the exact matrimonial style of Yeo’s grandparents.

Yeo, who is a 60-year-old father of three, said the wedding, which was held at a hotel here on Saturday, was “certainly memorable” as the ceremony was carried out in the traditional Peranakan way.

“I have done my fatherly duty of getting my daughters married in Peranakan tradition as it has been the wish of my wife and my family,” he said at a photo studio here with the two happy couples.

Yeo said he and his wife Dora Ng started planning the weddings last year.

The weddings were conducted in accordance with Baba and Nyonya customs.

His daughters Dionne, 29, and Evonne, 28, tied the knot witnessed by hundreds of guests.

Dionne and her bridegroom Kelvin Chee, 31, met five years ago.

Evonne met her husband Shaun Chin, 38, when both of them were modelling for a Peranakan mock wedding for a royal dignitary in 2005.

Meanwhile, Dionne said she never expected to walk down the aisle together with her sister.

“We spent most of our lives together and everyone often said we were like twins.

“Now, we got married at the same time with our soulmates,” she added.

For Evonne, the double wedding was an unforgettable experience.

She attended a series of briefings on traditions behind the Peranakan’s rich heritage before the big day.

“If you ask us if we want to do the wedding all over again, we are all for it,” she said.
