Felcra skipper hopes team will get arrears owing to them

-

PETALING JAYA: Felcra skipper Mohd Shahrom Kalam hopes his defunct club side will honour their contracts with the players.

The Premier League runners-up Felcra have pulled out of the M-League next season due to financial difficulties despite earning promotion to the top flight Super League for the 2019 season.

Last week, Felcra’s vice-president Datuk Hazian Murad said the team’s management would settle the players’ three-month arrears, estimated at RM2mil.

Former international Shahrom said the players were in the dark over the payments and were concerned.

“The management have not informed us over the payment schedule and it’s worrying because most of us have not signed with other teams,” said the 33-year-old .

“The club decision to withdraw from the M-League is a shock because we had won promotion to the Super League, the decision to quit was also announced quite late. Most of the other teams have completed their signing for the new season so it’s hard for us to get signed.”

“We don’t know what will happen to our careers at the moment... at least we can get the wages promised to us. We have parents who need medical treatment and children who will start schooling.”

Shahrom added that the players have lodged a complaint to the Professional Football Players Association of Malaysia (PFAM) .

“We hope the management will honour the contract and this issue can be settled amicably,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Felcra chairman Datuk Mohd Nageeb Abdul Wahab and the top management for agreeing to settle the remainder of the salaries and arrears owed to all the players and team officials.
