KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah visited fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim who was critically injured during a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Putra Heights.

Sultan Nazrin arrived at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 9am yesterday and present to receive him was Fire and Rescue Department director- general Datuk Muhammad Hamdan Wahid.

During the 30-minute visit, Sultan Nazrin was briefed on Muhammad Adib’s condition. He also handed over some contributi­ons to the fireman’s family.

In the incident early Tuesday morning, Muhammad Adib is believed to have been assaulted by a group of rioters while responding to an emergency at the temple.

Muhammad Adib, 24, suffered fractured ribs and internal injuries.

Meanwhile, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the state government had extended assistance to Muhammad Adib’s family when the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddi­n Sultan Badlishah, visited Muhammad Adib on Thursday, who is from Kuala Kedah.

“State Secretary Datuk Bakar Din handed over a contributi­on on behalf of the state government during the Sultan’s visit. Whatever the needs of the family, we will look into them,” Mukhriz said after visiting the firefighte­r at IJN yesterday.

“I had the chance to meet his family and they, like the rest of us, are hoping he will get better soon.”

IJN chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub said Muhammad Adib’s had regained consciousn­ess and showed positive signs yesterday morning.

He said the fireman was able to respond to several instructio­ns of the specialist attending to him.

“His condition is still critical but stable. We are encouraged with the progress,” he said. — Bernama
