Raising funds for those in need

-

BODHI Meditation Malaysia Charity Fund will hold the Fourth Charity Dinner at Wisma Hua Zong, Seri Kembangan on Feb 23, 2019.

The objective is to raise RM2.5mil to continue assisting those in need, such as underprivileged students, the elderly without any kin and orphanages.

The total proceeds will be utilised for various charitable projects and initiatives. The entire cost of organising this event will be separately sponsored by donors.

Bodhi Meditation Malaysia CEO Zhi Guang said it is the core mission of the charity fund to support underprivileged students by providing education subsidies.

Partnering with several universities and colleges to provide financial assistance is one of the ways in fulfilling this objective.

She said that Bodhi Meditation

volunteers also actively engaged with the students and their families, providing them with care and support when needed.

Bodhi Meditation Charity Fund chairman Ling Shan said that the fund raised RM2.66mil in March this year. Of the total, RM1.9mil was allocated for charitable projects while the remaining amount will be used for charitable purposes, including the JinBodhi Bursary for Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) students, which is currently open for application.

He pointed out that 100 percent of the RM2.5mil donation raised through the 2019 charity dinner will also be used for the same purpose.

In line with its transparent policy, Bodhi Meditation Charity Fund has also appointed an independent external accounting firm to conduct annual financial audits to ensure good governance over the charity fund.

TAR UC vice president Assoc Prof Dr Chook Ka Joo said he was grate- ful for the continuous funding for the students.

Although the TAR UC tuition fees are relatively affordable, he said there are still many students who cannot afford to pay even their first semester fee to register.

In 2017, the TAR UC-JinBodhi Bursary disbursed RM600,000 to support 31 students while in 2018, a further RM1mil has been reserved for the bursary.

Also present were Point College director Peter Pan, Bodhi Meditation Malaysia Charity Fund vice chairman Xu Te, Bodhi Meditation Malaysia Charity Fund committee member Fu Han as well as philanthropists Datuk Seri Alan Kuang and Datuk Seri Lau Koo San.
