Umno Youth: Mujahid must stop making such statements

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth wants Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof to stop making alarming statements on the alleged wrongdoings in Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), saying this could cause panic and “paralyse” the institution.

Its chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said if it was true that the previous TH management paid RM12.65bil in dividends illegally resulting in a RM4.1bil shortfall as of the end of last year, the present management should sue instead of the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department issuing statements.

He said he was concerned about depositors withdrawing funds as their confidence in TH paying dividends would be affected.

“If this happens, TH will face a big crisis which can paralyse the big institution,” he said yesterday.

Asyraf said TH had never reported losses and depositors’ funds were in fact guaranteed by the government as provided for in the Tabung Haji Act 1995.

“I am interested to know the type of mismanagement in TH which the minister has exposed,” he said.

Asyraf said he had never read any report from the National Audit or External Audit on the dividends issued over the last four years.

“Moreover, the minister’s power to announce the dividend distribution can only be done after being certified by the National Audit Department,” he added.
