Wan Saiful promises comprehensive PTPTN repayment scheme

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The new loan repayment method for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers will be more comprehensive, says its chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

He said PTPTN was currently in the midst of studying the new mechanism to ensure that it would be appropriate for all borrowers.

“Two groups – the low-income (B40) and the medium-income (M40) – are our top priority. The new scheme will also focus on those reluctant to pay the loans.

“The number of those reluctant to make repayments is small but we will make sure they start doing so.

“However, it is too early for me to announce the new method because we are still carrying out a detailed study,” he told reporters yesterday after officiating the ‘Kita Bantu Jom Ke Sekolah' programme where 200 children from underprivileged families will be given assistance for the new school year.

Also present was chairman of Pertubuhan Kami Insan Tanahair (Kita), a youth non-governmental organisation, Mohd Danial Abdul Rahman.

Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik recently announced that the scheduled salary deduction scheme for PTPTN borrowers had been postponed to enable the agency to obtain feedback from all stakeholders.

PTPTN subsequently was reported to have said that it would take between six and 12 months to hold engagement sessions with stakeholders to obtain feedback on study loan repayment method before it could be introduced.

Meanwhile, commenting on the ‘Kita Bantu Jom Ke Sekolah’ programme, Wan Saiful said it was organised by Kita in collaboration with PTPTN to assist underprivelegd childred.

“A total of 200 children, aged six to 12 years, received a donation of a National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN-i) fund of RM1,000 each,” he said.—
