Monsoon season showers laundromats with customers

-

KOTA BARU: The continuous rain over the past few weeks in Kelantan is considered a blessing of sorts for self-service laundromat operators.

This is the time when people are willing to pay to have their laundry done.

Some are willing to wait for over two hours to have their clothes and beddings washed and dried.

Mohd Azilah Mat Zain, 39, from Jelawat, Bachok, said he travelled all the way to wash and dry his clothes at a laundromat in Pasir Tumboh because there were already long queues at the nearby outlets.

“With the wet spell, people are rushing for the dryer machines as our clothes do not get completely dry when hung over the clothes lines,” he said.

Mohd Azilah said he had been using the laundromat facilities three times a week since the monsoon season started last month.

Mohd Khairul Hakimi, 33, said he was willing to wait for two hours to use the dryer as he had a heap of clothes since his family was spending a week in his hometown in Melor.

“We did not bring many clothes. So to ensure there is enough change of clean clothes for the children, we get our clothes dried instantly at the laundromat,” he said.

He said most of his siblings were also back in the village and they had run out of space on the clothes lines.

“Since it has been raining for days, our dirty laundry has been piling up too,” he said.

“The monsoon season brings relief to us laundry operators but with more outlets opening in the state, competition can be quite stiff,” said Azham Zakaria, a self-service laundromat operator in Pasir Tumboh.
