Sports Commissioner rules FAS EGM as illegal
PETALING JAYA: The extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held by a dissident group on Nov 8 is against the Selangor Football Association’s (FAS) statute.
The FAS royal secretariat has received a letter from the Malaysian Sports Commissioner’s Office stating that the EGM was not proper and did not follow the due process.
FAS secretary-general Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon said the president, exco members and royal secretariat are thankful with the verdict and their focus right now is on the preparations for the upcoming season.
He thanked the fans for their constant support and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the Sports Commissioner for handling the matter with credibility and professionalism.
On Nov 10, FAS president Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah stated that 52 affiliates had retracted their letters in support of the extraordinary general meeting (EGM).
Tengku Amir said five other affiliates were disqualified, resulting in only 10 out of the 121 FAS affiliates calling for an EGM.
This meant that the Nov 8 EGM in Seri Kembangan was invalid as it had not met the 50% quorum requirement as stated in the FAS regulations.
The Raja Muda of Selangor said the EGM was not valid and would not acknowledge the meeting.
During the 67th Annual FAS Congress on Friday, Tengku Amir said that 43 affiliate clubs that do not share the same values and dreams with FAS had been removed.
“Other than that, many steps to renew FAS have been taken, and we are starting to see encouraging results. This is just the beginning.
“My fellow comrades, let’s realise this winning mentality, bring the Red Giants to a higher level and march towards a better future,” he said in a statement.
