Cops up patrols for year-end festivitie­s

Police urge vigilance as Malaysians celebrate holidays

PETALING JAYA: Crime prevention rounds have started with the focus on year-end festivitie­s including the numerous New Year’s Eve parties in the Klang Valley.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said such patrols had started as early as Dec 19 in residentia­l areas and commercial centres to prevent any untoward incidents.

“We are focusing our patrols on houses where the occupants have gone away for the holidays,” he said.

He also advised the public to stay safe, especially when taking part in year-end festivitie­s.

“We are playing our part in ensuring the safety and security of all but the public should also be vigilant.

“Staying safe must always be the priority,” he said.

DCP Ab Rashid also said that all police personnel in the state were prepared to face any untoward incident or outcome.

“We will deploy sufficient personnel at various locations, including countdown parties,” he said yesterday.

In Johor Baru, state police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said police were looking at positionin­g their liaison officers at places of worships.

He said currently some 740 mosque liaison officers were appointed to oversee the safety of 698 mosques in Johor.

“We are expanding the initiative to also include other places of worship such as temples and churches,” he said.
