-

KUANTAN: Three members of a family were killed while another seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided with an express bus at the 140th kilometre of Jalan Kuantan-Johor Baru in Rompin near here.

Rosli Mat Daud, 38, and his mother Rakiah Mat, 64, died on the spot at 11.50pm on Tuesday, according to Rompin police chief DSP Azli Mohd Noor.

Rakiah’s grandson, five-year-old Aidil Ashraff Rizuan, was pronounced dead in the Rompin Hospital emergency ward.

DSP Azli said Aidil Ashraff ’s father Rizuan Mat Daud, 34, who was also the driver of the Proton Saga, was seriously injured and rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here.

“The victims were believed to be on their way to Johor Baru when their car veered into the oncoming lane before colliding with the express bus carrying 49 passengers to Kuantan.

“The bus driver could not avoid the car due to its close proximity. The impact caused the car to skid and land in a ditch on the left shoulder of the road,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to DSP Azli, the bus driver and passengers were not injured.

He added that Rakiah and Rosli hailed from Kampung Chica Lundang in Kota Baru, Kelantan, while Rizuan lived in Kampung Melayu Pandan, Johor Baru.

The victims’ remains were scheduled for a post-mortem at Rompin Hospital yesterday.
