Winds of change bring Akram to PKNS

-

PETALING JAYA: Midfielder Akram Mahinan (pic) has switched to a new team as he needed a breath of fresh air in his football career.

The former Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) player received offers from a few Malaysian clubs after his contract with Kedah expired but he has chosen PKNS.

The Klang Valley club knocked on his door promising more game time and prominence and Akram duly obliged and signed with them.

He aims to help the club gain success in the coming season under coach Datuk K. Rajagopal.

“I wanted to play for a different team after two seasons with Kedah. I’ve had good times with them but it’s time for a change,” said Akram, who played for the national team in the recent AFF Suzuki Cup.

“I’m friends with Mahali (Jasuli). I’m looking forward to playing with him for the first time.

“We all know his stature in Malaysian football. I’m hoping to learn from him as much as possible.”

The player from Kulim is expected to do the “dirty” job on the field for the Red Ants, similar to his role for the national team. His task is to protect the centrebacks and allow playmakers the freedom to create attacking chances.

Last season, Akram played 27 matches for Kedah and scored a goal for the Red Eagles. He is able to function as a box-to-box midfielder.
