MFL ready to meet KFA to resolve Akhyar issue

-

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) wants to help the Kedah Football Association (KFA) solve their problem.

KFA are up in arms over their star Akhyar Rashid’s decision to buy out his contract and join Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Appeals Committee last month rejected Kedah’s appeal against the national body’s status committee’s decision to allow the 19-year-old winger to buy out his contract.

The FAM Status Committee said Akhyar was allowed to redeem his contract with Kedah by paying RM210,000 and teams signing him will also have to pay a compensation worth RM75,000.

A disgruntled Kedah have threatened to bring the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and have launched a donation drive to collect funds for the cost of the case.

MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said they are willing to meet up with Kedah to explain the rules and regula- tions better including explaining their plans for the M-League.

“There was a meeting with all the 24 M-League teams in Johor Baru on Jan 3 but Kedah did not attend the meeting,” said Kevin.

“MFL are involved in issues like this because we are representing the M-League and the 24 teams and FAM, who are partners in the MFL.”

“We hope to meet Kedah and discuss with them.

“We have invited them for a meeting on Jan 10 and hope all problems can be ironed out.”
