Kepong BC secure ticket to Genting Finals
PETALING JAYA: Last season’s runners-up Kepong BC have given themselves another shot at the SS Purple League title when they secured their ticket to the six-team Finals in Genting Highlands next week.
Kepong BC bounced back from their shocking 6-12 defeat to Tebrau City Badminton Club in their opening Stage 2 tie on Friday by beating Bukit Mertajam All Stars BC 9-8 yesterday.
The win lifted them to first place in the six-team standings with 94 games played so far, two points ahead of Petaling BC, to confirm their participation for the title showdown at the Arena of Stars from Jan 24-27.
Petaling BC should face little trouble in their last fixture against Serdang BC to return to the summit.
The Petaling BC-Serdang BC match is a dead rubber as Serdang BC have already claimed the last berth to Genting for having an unassailable lead over Bukit Mertajam All Stars BC following their defeat to Kepong BC.
The four teams to qualify from Stage 2 will join Ampang Jaya BC and Puchong United BC, the automatic qualifiers from the Stage 1, to complete the six-team cast.
