Uncle Kentang pledges to bring Puchong template to Semenyih

KLANG: Social activist Kuan Chee Heng says he is contesting in the Semenyih by-election because he is fed up with the past and present governments.

According to the 56-year-old former policeman, who is also known as Uncle Kentang and 10-sen man, his main grouse is the unchanging socio-economic status of low-income families and the underprivileged.

“Only the lifestyle of the Yang Berhormat changes as they are able to shop at places like the Pavillion after winning the polls.

“As for the regular folk, we still can only afford to shop at the pasar malam,” said the winner of 2017 Star Golden Hearts Award.

The outspoken founding president of the Malaysian Society of Community Policing claimed that elected representatives generally disappeared after winning office.

“I will not disappear if I am elected and will replicate in Semenyih whatever I have done for the underprivileged in Puchong,” he said.

Kuan has set up various facilities for the poor in Puchong such as hearse, ambulance and transportation services where one pays only 10 sen to use them.

“I have also set up a food bank offering groceries outside my house in Puchong and anyone who is in need can just come over and help themselves without having to answer any question.

“I will set up a food bank in Semenyih once I have established myself there,” he said.

Kuan said his initiative was supported by the public as well as the businessmen who provided him with the funds and goods.

“We have many generous people backing the initiatives in Puchong and they will continue to do the same in Semenyih,” he said.
