Perfect day to get hitched for 25 couples
GEORGE TOWN: The saying goes that you can’t rush love but in the case of Lim Kok Jin and Tang Siew Kim, it took only 11 days for the couple to fall in love and decide to get hitched.
Having met during a holiday tour to Eastern Europe last year, the couple, both 46, decided that they should not waste any more time in building a life together.
Purchaser Lim said he knew Tang was the one for him as their personalities fit perfectly like two puzzle pieces.
“I had always been single and never thought much about my relationship status.
“But when I met Tang, I knew almost immediately that she was the one for me as we were able to communicate with ease,” he said during their marriage registration ceremony on Thursday at the Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society in Macalister Road.
Tang, who has two daughters from a previous marriage, said she was sure that Lim would be a great husband.
“I didn’t think much of him when I first met him on the tour but after a few days, we got on well and I thought he was such a good man.
“All I look for in a partner is good character and honesty,” Tang said, adding that although her daughters were not comfortable with Lim at first, they had since come to accept him.
“We are now happy and living in perfect harmony,” she added.
The couple were among 25 who tied the knot during the Valentine’s Day mass marriage registration ceremony.
Also spotted at the ceremony were Khoo Boo Lye, 35, and Koay Mei Shien, 26.
Love blossomed between the couple while they worked at a factory in George Town.They then decided to seek work in Singapore in 2017 before taking the plunge to settle down.
Khoo, who now works as a machinist in Singapore, said it was difficult adapting to life there as neither of them had any friends or relatives there.
“We only have each other. But it was during this time that we became closer and decid- ed to get married,” he added.
Koay, an administrative clerk, described Khoo as a caring and attentive man.
“He takes very good care of me and when we got stable in our careers and life, we decided to get married,” she said.
Koay also said they chose to return to Penang to get married as it is their hometown.
Also present were Che Hoon Kor Moral Uplifting Society’s deputy director Datuk Lim Theng Hooi, his wife Datin Peggy Khoo and marriage assistant registrar Yang Li Zhao.
