Ramkarpal: Charge retired bad judges
Retired judges implicated in the affidavit filed by Court of Appeal judge Datuk Dr Hamid Sultan Abu Backer should be charged, says Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
He said while it was commendable that the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court had lodged a police report, the statement by Chief Justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum that retired judges may not face action should not be accepted.
“The police and Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) should investigate if there is any evidence of their involvement.
“The Chief Justice should act fast as there are also serving judges who could be implicated in the affidavit.
“If this is the case, disciplinary and possible criminal action should be brought against them,” Ramkarpal said after visiting the Paya Terubong market yesterday.
He said the judges implicated in the “scam” should have their judgments reviewed to protect the reputation of the judiciary.
“I fully agree that the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry by the government would be a good move to investigate the allegations.
“We cannot let the image of the judiciary be tarnished by the actions of a few,” he said.
Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer urged the MACC to investigate the alleged abuse of power in the Malaysian judiciary.
