All set for London Fashion Week

-

FOR the fourth time, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has been invited to showcase its designs at the London Fashion Week, which will be held at Freemasons’ Hall in London this evening.

The university, which was also invited to take part in the prestigious event in 2012, 2017 and 2018, was selected by a distinguished panel of judges.

University vice-president (brand, creativity and talent development) Datuk Tiffanee Marie Lim worked with designer Pedram Mirsadeghi on the collection.

“This platform is one we take happily because our students grow so much in the challenge. Fashion is the second biggest employer in the world and supports so many economies.

“We wanted to prove that ambition and skills are all you need to succeed. I’m proud the university is exposing the whole process in education and therefore keeps innovating for the whole world,” she said.

Tiffanee Marie said the team also worked with students at Limkokwing London, adding that the mixture of experience has been beneficial to all.

“Having an international class from Malaysia to collaborate with British students is invaluable.

“All pieces are made on campus by the Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity. The show’s soundtrack is done by the Limkokwing Sound and Music Design Academy while students in digital film will be hosting the show live on Limkokwing social media,” she said.

“You’ll also see things from different parts of Asia and Africa representing a sense of travel because of our students’ hometowns and our personal places. Having so many campuses abroad allows for so much added learning,” she added.

Tiffanee Marie has been part of the Limkokwing team, which has been involved in the previous London Fashion Week events too.

The university’s lecturers have been working closely with the students as they were involved in all aspects too, from the creation of the garments to managing the front and back stage as well as broadcasting this exciting journey on social media.

A group of 20 Malaysian students from the Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity have flown to London to be a part of the team presenting the Limkokwing designs at the fashion event.

This year’s collection is inspired by Malaysian textiles filled with exotic international flavours or textures.

In addition to London Fashion Week, Limkokwing University has showcased the work of its students and graduates in Osaka, Chengdu, Cambodia, Botswana, Jakarta, Paris, London, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.

The themes for the previous collections were on the delicate culture of Botswana in 2012 while in 2017, it was the mixture of Asian as well as African cultures. The theme last year was based on “Date Night”, which incorporated rich cultural prints, extravagant accessories and high–end looks that elevated the romantic values of Asian and African cultures to the world’s stage.

University president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing has always promoted creativity and ensured that it is nurtured among its students from the moment they step onto campus.
