SMJK Choong Hwa in Bidor, Perak, opened its doors to neighbouring schools to share its joy and excitement during the Chinese New Year festivities.

Under the helm of newly appointed principal Margaret Lim, the school organised a series of fun activities and performances for its school’s teachers and students as well as those from SMK Syekh Abdul Ghani, SJK (C) Choong Hwa 1 and SJK (C) Choong Hwa 2.

There were lion dance performances by the primary school pupils, traditional Tarian Zapin performed by students of SMK Syekh Abdul Ghani, as well as calligraphy workshops for both students and teachers, and the distribution of mandarin oranges.

Lim said the celebration was part of the school’s effort to put an emphasis on the Student Integration Plan For Unity (Rimup), which is listed in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. “Malaysians wish each other and celebrate festivals be it Chinese New Year, Hari Raya or Deepavali together.

“It is a tradition that has become the identity of a multi-racial Malaysian society.

“I am very happy that SMJK Choong Hua also practises this,” she said.

Lim stressed that the event was part of the school’s efforts to celebrate Chinese New Year and foster the spirit of unity, religious tolerance and racial harmony.

Also present were SMJK Choong Hwa Bidor senior assistant (student affairs) Zaman Shah and chief clerk Abdul Ghani.
