The act of placing an idol at a surau in Klang is malicious and intended to insult Islam while disrupting racial and religious harmony in the country, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Home Minister, who condemned the irresponsible act, said police received several reports on the matter.

“I have instructed the Inspector-General of Police to investigate this thoroughly.

“Stern action based on the rule of law must be taken against those responsible for committing such a despicable and provocative act,” he said yesterday.

On Wednesday, the residents of Taman Pendamar were shocked when they found an idol placed next to the main entrance of the Sabilul Huda surau.

The idol was discovered by a surau official who turned up to prepare for the Asar prayers.

Muhyiddin said recent incidents of insulting Islam which included messages on social media were very dangerous and could stir the anger of Muslims.

“The suspect has been identified and investigations are underway. I believe the Deputy Public Prosecutor will make a decision on prosecuting the suspect soon,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the ministry would not compromise on any act that insulted religions and could jeopardise the country’s racial and religious harmony.

“Those responsible for stirring up tensions among the different races and religions must be arrested based on the law, prosecuted and punished if found guilty,” he said.
