Unknown Low and Ng one win from first major title
PETALING JAYA: Little-known national men’s doubles pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong have a good chance of making a name for themselves.
The world No. 169 are one win away from claiming their first international title but they must overcome independent shuttlers Chooi Kah Ming-Low Juan Shen at the Laos International Series in Vientiane today.
Hang Yee-Eng Cheong were first to check into the final when they blew away national teammates Choong Hon Jian-Man Wei Chong 21-18, 21-13 in just 23 minutes while Kah Ming-Juan Shen made it an all-Malaysian affair by battling to a 16-21, 21-17, 21-13 win over Indonesia’s Muhammad Fachrikar-Amri Syahnawi.
Paired up in the middle of last year, Hang Yee-Eng Cheong’s best achievement so far is a semi-final finish at the Singapore International Series last October.
Hang Yee-Eng Cheong have been in sizzling form this week, winning all their first four matches in less than 25 minutes and without dropping a game.
But they can expect a tough time against world No. 50 Kah Ming-Juan Shen, who are aiming to win their first title after quitting the national team last August.
Kah Ming-Juan Shen got their independent careers off to a superb start by making the semi-finals of the Korean Open last month
Meanwhile, Eng Cheong failed in his bid to enter two finals when he and Pearly Tan Koong Le lost to Thailand’s Mek Narongrit-Kwanchanok Sudjaipraparat in the mixed doubles semi-finals.
