Chance to speak for Malaysia
THE English Speaking Union (ESU) of Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute for Debate and Public Speaking (MIDP) and Taylor’s College are organising their annual Public Speaking Competition.
The competition is open to all Malaysians aged between 16 and 20.
All participants will be required to deliver a prepared speech on the theme, “A Lie Has Speed, But Truth Has Endurance” as well as an impromptu speech at the preliminary round before they
qualify to speak on the national theme, “Nature Is A Common Language” at the finals to be held on April 20.
Participants will be judged on the substance of their speech, expression and delivery.
It is an exciting opportunity to enhance this vital skill and stand a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip and represent Malaysia at the International Public Speaking Competition (IPSC) in London, from May 13 to 17.
This marks the 39th anniversary of the IPSC, which is the largest public speaking competition in the world.
The winner of the ESU-IPSC will have the opportunity to take part in the February 2020 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations in New York.
To prepare students to take part in this competition, a one-day special Public Speaking Workshop (RM100 fee per person including refreshments ) will be held on April 7 from 9.30am to 5pm.
The heats and semi-finals will be held on April 13 from 9.30am to 5pm. It is RM50 per participant.
The finals will be held on April 20 from 2.30pm to 5pm.
The venue for all events is Taylor’s College Lakeside Campus, No. 1 Jalan Taylor’s, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor.
All workshop participants will receive a certificate of participation while finalists will get a certificate of merit.
