THE English Speaking Union (ESU) of Malaysia in collaborat­ion with the Malaysian Institute for Debate and Public Speaking (MIDP) and Taylor’s College are organising their annual Public Speaking Competitio­n.

The competitio­n is open to all Malaysians aged between 16 and 20.

All participan­ts will be required to deliver a prepared speech on the theme, “A Lie Has Speed, But Truth Has Endurance” as well as an impromptu speech at the preliminar­y round before they

qualify to speak on the national theme, “Nature Is A Common Language” at the finals to be held on April 20.

Participan­ts will be judged on the substance of their speech, expression and delivery.

It is an exciting opportunit­y to enhance this vital skill and stand a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip and represent Malaysia at the Internatio­nal Public Speaking Competitio­n (IPSC) in London, from May 13 to 17.

This marks the 39th anniversar­y of the IPSC, which is the largest public speaking competitio­n in the world.

The winner of the ESU-IPSC will have the opportunit­y to take part in the February 2020 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations in New York.

To prepare students to take part in this competitio­n, a one-day special Public Speaking Workshop (RM100 fee per person including refreshmen­ts ) will be held on April 7 from 9.30am to 5pm.

The heats and semi-finals will be held on April 13 from 9.30am to 5pm. It is RM50 per participan­t.

The finals will be held on April 20 from 2.30pm to 5pm.

The venue for all events is Taylor’s College Lakeside Campus, No. 1 Jalan Taylor’s, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor.

All workshop participan­ts will receive a certificat­e of participat­ion while finalists will get a certificat­e of merit.
