Passport renewal services for Indonesians is back

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Indonesian Embassy says its passport renewal services is back on track after initial glitches in January.

Its minister-counsellor Yusron B. Ambary said the problem was resolved in the third week of February.

“It (the system) was not entirely down, it just got slower. We could still provide the service,” he said yesterday.

Yusron was responding to complaints by employers of long delays in renewing the passports of their Indonesian workers at the embassy since January.

This affected work permit applications, which could not be submitted without the passports being first renewed.

Steven Lim said he been trying to renew the passport of his Indonesian domestic worker since Feb 26 in order to renew her employment visa.

“My maid’s work permit will expire soon. We need the new Indonesian passport in order to renew the work permit,” he said.

Yusron advised employers who faced problems in renewing their Indonesian workers’ passports to return to the embassy to re-apply.

Yusron said there was also an online registration system for passport applications at http://onlineservice.kbrikl.org/passport/

“We also have an MoU with Pos Malaysia in returning the passports. So employers don’t have to go back to the embassy just to collect the passports.

“Instead, they can choose the post office of their choice,” he said.
