Set on taking a different path in life
TO the people who think they know what’s best for me, I thank you for being kind and I believe in the sincerity of your intentions. Before deciding that I would undertake a different path, I gave much thought to it. I even thought of poverty and the disgrace to my family.
Nonetheless, I believe that I am able to make an honest living for myself. I also believe that if I continuously work with my heart and soul, I will be able to live comfortably someday. I am taking the courage this time to live on my own terms. If I fail, I will blame nobody but myself.
These are the positive considerations behind my decision. Firstly, I am neither depressed nor suicidal. I am hopeful and ready to take all the temporary defeats as a result of my decision.
Secondly, I will work continuously until things work out. I will not retreat. I will not give up on life.
Thirdly, I will clean up the mess I have caused, including the financial bond with the government. I do not wish for anyone to pay my debts. It is my responsibility to do so.
Also, I firmly believe that “our only limitations are those we set in our minds”. Success requires no apologies; failure permits no alibis.
It has taken me 10 years to find my courage to decide that I will no longer live under anybody else’s permission or shadow. This life is mine. I have successfully earned a medical degree. Is it enough for you? I just want to be happy.
