Woman with injuries found locked up in flat

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 64-yearold woman is believed to have been physically abused by her two children after she was rescued from a flat here.

A resident found her locked up in the unit on the 12th floor with head and body injuries.

She was sent to Bukit Mertajam hospital for treatment.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the doctor who treated her alerted the police at about 3pm on Wednesday, saying the woman could have been abused physically.

Investigat­ion showed the woman could have been beaten withastick.

“The victim said she sustained the injuries from a fall and refused to say she had been beaten up by her children.”

He said the woman had been staying with her 35-year-old daughter, 32-year-old son and 28-year-old daughter-in-law who is disabled.

“She also had a history of suffering from depression. Her condition is now stable.”

ACP Nik Ros Azhan said domestic issue, financial problem and stress could have led to the incident, adding that her two children could be mentally ill.
