The Sungai Kim Kim chemical pollution is an unprecedented disaster. The culprit or culprits responsible should be hauled up and the river cleansed by experts without delay. We live in uncertain times. Who knows if this was a weapon to do us in. – William Ong

Many Johor Baru folk are not only fuming over the toxic chemicals dumped in Sungai Kim Kim but also over the delayed reaction and apparent indifference of the Johor state government in handling this crisis. The fast and effective dissemination of information and action plan among the public has not been forthcoming. The slow handling and disposal of seized chemicals due to alleged high costs has worsened a situation exacerbated by the current hot dry spell. – Beatle No.5

Re: chemical pollution in Johor. Why are only schools affected? Houses adjacent to the affected area do not seem to be, as no evacuation of residents has been carried out. Very strange indeed.

The toxic gas situation could have been stopped if the authorities had taken action at an early stage. Why wait for almost seven days? They knew on March 6, but action was only taken on March 13. Are we looking for more tragedy? Don’t repeat this. – N.V. Subbarow, Penang
