Vision 2030 as Malaysia bids to host Asian Games
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is keen to host the 2030 Asian Games.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said a bidding paper for the host job would be prepared by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) at the shortest possible time.
“We are looking at either hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2026 or Asiad in 2030,” said Syed Saddiq after the town hall meeting with badminton stakeholders at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara here yesterday.
“The papers will be sent to me and I’ll present it to the Cabinet for discussion. Our doors are definitely open but we need to examine it first.”
Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq added that a task force would be formed to come out with clear guidelines on the role of private clubs and their partnership with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
“The clubs should play complementary role in the badminton ecosystem as they have invested millions of ringgit in moving badminton forward and I believe there can be a structured collaborative model.”
He added that they would also look into sending school coaches to BAM for training.
“Currently, only private institutions can afford to pay professional trainers to coach at schools.”
“I hope schools can collaborate with state badminton associations and BAM to give school coaches exposure at the state and national training centres.”
