Redzuan: Stay behind or move with ‘flying car’

-

MALAYSIANS who have been making fun of the much-hyped “flying car” can stay behind the times and take a ride on “bamboo cars”, quips Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Yusof.

“They can choose to stay behind. People call this a state of denial, whereby they can choose to stay behind.

“It’s okay to stay under bamboo. (If they) want to ride ‘bamboo cars’, that’s okay too,” he said at Parliament lobby in reply to opposition MP Datuk Noraini Ahmad’s (BN-Parit Sulong) comments earlier during the sitting about whether bamboo could be used as parts for the “flying car”.

Redzuan said the government’s endorsement of the privately funded “flying car” project was aimed at developing human capital.

“It’s more towards giving knowledge education to these people. We don’t want this group to be left behind.

“Actually, these Malaysian youths (behind the project) are already far ahead and they are in the same rank as those who invented and did research (on the concept) at an international level,” he said.

Malaysians have made fun of the “flying car” project on social media, with some asking if the model is made from the famous KDK fans while others expressed scepticism.

Meanwhile, Aerodyne CEO Kamarul Muhamed said that a working prototype of the air mobility vehicle was expected to be ready by the year-end, adding that it would cost about RM500,000.

Aerodyne is a global player in the drone services industry and is ranked seventh internationally by the Drone Industry Insights. It started in 2014 with three people and now employs about 280 people in 24 countries around the world.

The flying car subject saw several opposition MPs teasing Redzuan after he tried to explain the technology when winding up his ministerial reply on the Royal Address in the sitting yesterday.

Noraini interjected Redzuan excitedly and said she wanted to praise him for the idea.

“I would like to ask a question. This is a very creative idea actually. But it reminds me of the times when I used to watch The Jetsons,” she quipped.
