PETALING JAYA: Malaysians are eagerly awaiting the end of two iconic series: the finale of the hugely popular Game of Thrones and Marvel movie Avengers: Endgame.

Colin, who heads the IT department at a telco company, is raring to watch Endgame, which opens in cinemas on April 24.

“I’m excited to find out the fate of the superheroes who were killed off (in the last movie, Avengers: Infinity War), whether their deaths will be reversed and who will finally die at the end of Avengers: Endgame,” he said.

The 48-year-old, who has been a Marvel Comics collector since secondary school, says watching Avengers: Endgame will be a bittersweet experience.

“I’m sad because it’s the last movie where we’ll be seeing the original team together but also excited for the many more movies to come, as part of the continuous Marvel Cinematic Universe expansion,” he said.

Avengers: Endgame is the final chapter of the Infinity Saga, which comprises 22 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe revolving around the powerful Infinity Stones. The first movie, Iron Man, was released in 2008.

A representative from cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas said the excitement among Malaysian fans was reflected by the film’s presale tickets, launched globally on April 2 at 8pm.

“The response has been very positive.

“Quite a number of halls that offer unique experiences our customers favour like 4DX (a multi-sensory cinematic experience), Dolby Atmos (an immersive surround sound system) and Onyx (a giant LED screen) are sold out.

“We’re looking forward to hosting all Marvel fans and cinema-goers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Game Of Thrones fan, 21-year-old college student Mia Sivan, who was 13 when she started watching the series, is excited to find out what happens to the strong female characters the show is known for.

“Daenerys Targaryen is my favourite character because I have watched how she grew from being an enslaved girl in Season 1, to becoming this powerful woman and leader,” she said.

Game Of Thrones premieres April 15 on HBO (Astro Ch 411).

The plot in the series has surpassed the George RR Martin books it is based on.

One fan who read the books and refused to watch the show after the series moved past the books’ narrative, said he would, however, watch the final season.

Nick Chee said: “Everyone will be talking about the show anyway, I don’t want to be left out of the conversation.”

HBO will be giving fans a chance for photo ops with Viserion the Dragon as the beast is scheduled to make surprise appearances around the Klang Valley from April 5 to April 14.

A replica of the Iron Throne will also make its rounds.

Astro is also offering fans (including non-subscribers) a special pass to catch up on all the episodes of Game Of Thrones before the premiere of the final season via Astro Go.
